Description
The Magpul DAKA Hard Case R44 is a wheeled, injection-molded rifle case with a 44.3-inch interior, built around the DAKA GRID Organizer instead of pick-and-pluck foam. Magpul says it holds up to two standard 16-inch rifles or heavy carbines with accessories. The GRID system is a base of blocks you arrange around each gun, so it does not soak up moisture or solvent and it wipes clean. This is the flat dark earth version.
The shell is gas-charged polypropylene with a water and weather resistant gasket and a self-equalizing pressure valve. Push-button cam latches open one-handed. It rolls on ball-bearing wheels with rubber overmolding, has three handles, recessed lock housings with integrated lock pass-throughs for padlocks, and nesting lugs so cases stack in the truck. In the box: the case plus the GRID Organizer with eight triple blocks and eight double blocks. Empty it weighs about 19.4 lb, about 21.4 lb with the GRID. Made in the USA.
Size note: interior depth is 5.5 inches total, 4 inches in the base and 1.5 in the lid. A rifle with a tall scope and mount may need to lie on its side. Measure your setup against 44.3 by 16.6 by 5.5 inches.

Who should skip it
A precision rifle with a 24 to 26 inch barrel will not fit in 44.3 inches. Get the DAKA Hard Case LR53. If your longest gun is a 16-inch carbine or PCC and you want to save four pounds and some money, the C35 does the job. For local match days where you drive, a DAKA Soft Case SR44 is far lighter.
