Description
The JP Enhanced Bolt Catch is a direct drop-in replacement for the standard mil-spec AR-15 bolt catch. It gives you a larger, textured contact surface for more consistent bolt release during reloads — particularly under match stress where fine motor control gets harder.
The catch is machined from 8620 billet steel rather than the stamped or cast parts found in most mil-spec lower parts kits. JP machines these to tighter width tolerances than standard, which reduces side-to-side play in the lower receiver. In practical terms, that means less wobble and a more deliberate feel when you engage it. The finish is a standard manganese phosphate coating for corrosion resistance and durability.
The enlarged paddle works on both sides — the top paddle (where your thumb hits during a bolt release) and the bottom paddle (where the magazine follower contacts for last-round hold-open) are both bigger than stock. The textured surface provides grip even with wet or gloved hands.
This is the .223/5.56 small-frame version. JP also makes a .308 large-frame version (JPEBC-308) and a .22LR rimfire version (JPEBC-22LR) — they are not interchangeable. The .223 version fits any mil-spec AR-15 lower receiver.
Installation requires a bolt catch roll pin, bolt catch spring, plunger, and a roll pin punch. The catch itself is the only part included — you’ll reuse your existing spring, plunger, and roll pin from the stock catch you’re replacing, or source them separately if building from scratch.
