The JP Silent Captured Spring replaces your standard AR-15 buffer and spring with a self-contained unit that eliminates the grinding, scraping sound of a mil-spec spring cycling inside the buffer tube. That alone makes the rifle feel more refined, but the real payoff for competitors is smoother cycling and reduced felt recoil impulse — two things that directly affect how fast you can get back on target between shots.

At 5.3 oz total with a 2.9 oz reciprocating mass, the standard JPSCS2-15 drops in as a direct replacement for a standard carbine buffer. It ships with a spacer for rifle-length tubes, so it works with both collapsible and fixed stocks. The spring is removable and swappable, which means you can tune the action to your specific gas system, bolt carrier weight, and ammunition. If you're already running a JP low-mass carrier and adjustable gas block, this is the piece that ties the whole system together. One thing to know: JP recommends removing the standard buffer retainer pin during installation. The SCS rides the guide rod freely inside the tube, which is fine when the receivers are pinned together. If that bugs you, JP has a dedicated SCS retainer pin that solves it.
