Description
The Magpul DAKA Hard Case LR53 is the long rifle case in the DAKA hard case line, with a 53.8-inch interior that Magpul says accepts most shotguns and long rifles. Like the C35 and R44 it is built around the DAKA GRID Organizer instead of foam, so you arrange blocks around the gun and the base does not soak up moisture, solvent, or dirt. This is the black version.
The shell is injection-molded gas-charged polypropylene with a water and weather resistant gasket and a self-equalizing pressure valve. Four cammed push-button latches open one-handed. It rolls on ball-bearing wheels with rubber overmolding and reinforced polymer hubs, has three handles, recessed lock housings with integrated lock pass-throughs for padlocks, and nesting lugs for stacking. In the box: the case plus the GRID Organizer with ten triple blocks and ten double blocks. Empty it weighs about 25 lb, about 28 lb with the GRID. Made and engineered in the USA.
Size note: the interior is 53.8 by 16.6 by 5.5 inches, with 4 inches of depth in the base and 1.5 in the lid. A precision rifle with a large scope and a bipod folded forward may need the bipod removed to close the lid. This case is heavy and long, so check airline oversize rules before you fly.
